Cellblock Guide Cellblock is a pretty simple game, but the setup around it is somewhat confusing. It's set up kinda like the other card game, in which you play against progressively more difficult opponents. However, instead of playing each opponent once and then moving on, you must win a 'best of' against them. With the earlier opponents it is a best of three, then best of five and so on. You only recieve neopoints when you win a best of, not for winning each game. When you beat Master Vex, you would think that would be the end, and you would get a gold trophy right? Wrong. That's only the first tournament, and beating Master Vex the first time will only get you a bronze trophy. You must play nine more tournaments before you can earn a silver trophy. Yowch, I know. The np isn't really very good either. You have to pay to play, and if you win, you get back four times your entry fee. But if you lose, you lose. Tough bananas. But because of this, it is a very impressive trophy to have in your cabinet. If you like trophies, and you have patience, you can do it. The game is pretty enjoyable too. So how to play? Well, it's a thinking game, like chess or Othello/Reversi. You want to put yourself in a positiong where you can't be blocked from getting five of your pieces in a row. But, you want to keep your opponent from getting five in a row. Some Strategies 1. If you can get four in a row with nothing at either end, you are practically guarenteed a win. Try to do this at any opportunity. Also, keep an eye out for your opponent to try the same thing. Anytime he has three in a row, you gotta block it. 2. A good strategy against the tougher opponents is what I call 'leading'. Leading is when you play pieces onto threes that are already blocked on one side. Your opponent then has to play his piece at the end of the line, usually in a useless place for him. If your position is looking pretty bleak, four or five leads in a row will often give you some new positions to venture from, without giving him any new ones. 3. This generally only works with the easier opponents, but it's always worth a shot. If you notice that your opponent is going to get a five in a row on the next turn, and you can't block it, try a lead. Sometimes, the computer will block your line instead of finishing its own! |
