Faerie Cloud Racers Guide

Game setup: The object of the game is to outlast your opponent. There are six rounds and if you last until the last one you will be the winner. Your racer and your opponents are in a square field. You use the arrow keys to turn your racer... down for down, right for right, etc. The first racer to run into the wall or one of the 'smoke trails' left by a racer is the loser. Points are rewarded for winning and for how long the match was. Your score is doubled into NP. Average NP haul per game is about 500. This is definitely a game where practice makes perfect.

Strategies: There are bonus points for how long the match is, so you want the matches to last as long as conceivably possible, but with minimum risk to you. The best way to do that is to use your racer to divide the field in half:

1. At GO!, quickly press down, left, up and right, in order to get to the wall and back just over your starting position. This way, there is no gap on the left side. This is a little tricky to get the hang of, but practice, practice, practice. Timing is everything.

2. Sometimes the opponent starts at the wall, sometimes off. If she starts at the wall, all you have to do is get your racer to seal off that line, and then start moving like this:
<------<-----<----<---------<---------<------<
----->----->----->---->----->----->----->---^
^-----<-------<-------<--------<------<{start here}
So you are making lines on top of each other, which makes the best use of the space. Your opponent, being a computer script, will make chaotic turns and such, and soon enough crash.

3. If she starts away from the wall, you will need to get to the wall and seal it off. Again, timing is everything.

Tips: It is really important not to take your eyes off your racer. Don't get distracted by the other guy. Don't check, while your doing your lines, to see how close she is to crashing. It is really easy to mess up if you do this! If you find yourself prone to getting distracted, I recommend that you use Miamouse, because that racer is large and showy and interesting to look at. I think it kind of looks like fluffy scissors. If you don't have that problem, the two best racers in my experience are Meekins and Floud. They're nice because they turn well and they don't go too fast, so it's easier for beginners.
